Die größten Städte sind Derby, Leicester und Nottingham, wo auch der Verwaltungssitz ist. Zwischen diesen Städten liegt der Flughafen East Midlands. Die Region ist mit den Hochgeschwindigkeitszügen der Midland Mainline mit London verbunden. Außerdem verläuft der Motorway M1 durch die Region.
